Hi, I am the bald tennis player who is enjoying trying to learn this beautiful game of tennis while living with Stage 4 Bowel Cancer.
Back in March 22, I was diagnosed and had urgent bowel surgery within a few weeks. I had no pain or major symptoms. My only symptoms was going to the bathroom three times a day instead once a day. What is your normal bowel movements? Since Covid was priority, I didn’t think much about it until I lost few stones in weight and changed doctors to get answers.
So, three years and six months.. 3 major surgeries, 50+ chemo sessions, cardiac arrest, blood clot issues, I am still standing and trying to learn to play tennis. Currently, I am going through chemo and my tumours are shrinking again.
I am founder member of Bowel Cancer Ireland, a small voluntary bowel cancer patients who wish to spread the awareness and advocate for bowel patients. We work closely with Marie Keating Foundation, Irish Cancer Society, Cancer Trial Ireland and Digestive Cancers Europe.
Irish Cancer Society has been an useful asset to all cancer patients. They provide an information session ahead of your first chemo session. There are many daffodil centres in the hospitals which provide assistance and guidance to us, cancer patients. The freephone support line is great as there is a nurse who can answers our questions. Transport to hospital appointments and chemo sessions, but Irish Cancer Society provides door to door pick up service. Trust me, chemo makes you sleepy!!
Over the years, I have worked with the Irish Cancer Society on their awareness campaigns in the last few years. In 2024, I was on their social media feed and managed to ask Pat Kenny on his radio show, how was his bowel movements?!!
Please support the charity day on 24th August, everyone in the club has been affected by cancer and have/will use their services. I have been fortunate that this club has been amazing to me and I hope you will pass on your kind support to this worthwhile event.
"I wanna thank you as a club. I only joined last year and everyone has been so kind and welcoming. I am eternally grateful for all the support."
