Tennis is a fantastic sport for all ages and abilities — a sport for life! The Junior Tennis Programme at Portmarnock Tennis Club provides a safe, welcoming environment where children of all skill levels can enjoy the game. With over 300 junior members (up to 14 years old), we offer excellent facilities to help young players grow through coaching, camps, and competitions.
Junior tennis is classified by ball colour with each colour aligning with an approximate age category.
Head Coach Joey Purcell leads our junior coaching programme, which runs in line with the school terms. We offer ability-based sessions using the red, orange, green, and yellow ball system (see age ranges above). Coaching terms last 8–10 weeks and must be paid for in advance. We email full details approximately three weeks before each term begins. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with limits based on court capacity and coach-to-player ratios.
To encourage practice and social play, junior members can book courts between 8 AM and 7 PM daily, provided they are accompanied by an adult member. League match play is permitted beyond 7 PM when supervised by a parent, guardian, or an adult league teammate. If courts are available after 7 PM, juniors may continue playing under adult supervision.
Discover a variety of competitive and fun tennis events for juniors at Portmarnock.
Annual Junior Championships takes place in August each year and is a great way for children to compete in singles and doubles events and win prizes.
Happy Hitters is a fun introduction to tennis for our younger members (4-7 years old). It takes place every Saturday morning from 9-10 AM, with a cost of €5, payable in advance. To join the WhatsApp group, please contact a member of the Junior Committee.
Each of the camps are held during school breaks and offer primary school children a fun way to practice their tennis skills and meet friends in a great (and sometimes sunny) environment. Details are emailed approximately 6 weeks ahead of kick-off and must be paid in advance.
American Tournaments are arranged throughout the year for our junior members to experience competitive tennis
The annual Parent and Child event takes place in early December and is a fun way to get parents involved by playing doubles tennis with their kids. Players can dress in festive attire, enjoy Christmas tunes, and have a great time in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
