Club Rules
PORTMARNOCK TENNIS CLUB
CLUB RULES
PSLC Tennis Club is fully committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of its members as a firm part of our terms & conditions. Every individual in the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for their safety and welfare and conduct themselves in a way that reflects the principles of the club and the guidelines contained in the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport in Ireland. The club will maintain, update, publish and enforce its Child Protection Policy in accordance with best practice documents as required by the relevant governing authorities. The latest version will be made available, at all times, on the club website.
It is a condition of membership that each club member upholds and supports the Child Protection Policy, as published on the club website.
The club will obtain, retain, and make use of members’ personal data in accordance with GDPR and other data protection regulations. The latest club policy with regards to data protection will be available, at all times, on the club website.
The following rules shall govern the use of the premises of Portmarnock Tennis Club unless altered by the Executive Committee as it may see fit from time to time for the efficient running of the club.
- The rules of play shall be those adopted by the Irish Lawn Tennis Association.
- Floodlighting must not be used after 11.30pm Lights must be paid for by the hour to the PSLC.
- Any Junior member of the Tennis Club may use the tennis courts at any time between 9am and 7pm with the latest booking slot being 6pm. Mon – Fri. Juniors under 14 may play past 7pm. Saturday & Sunday with adult supervision. Juniors 14 years and older may play past 7pm.
- Coaching may only be carried out by club affiliated coaches and is only available to club members, non-members are limited to three guest visits per year and must pay the appropriate guest fee. Also, in limited circumstances, non-members, both junior and senior, are allowed to use the courts with club coaches for a specified period (as approved by the Executive Committee), after which the coaches will advise non-members of becoming both tennis club and PSLC members if they wish to continue with the tennis coaching. The following conditions shall apply in relation to preference of use of courts 1 to 6. The following conditions apply for booking a court:
- a) If a court is free and not booked the member may book the court online immediately for the remaining allocated time.
- b) The court may only be booked for the time period allocated by the booking system.
- c) Preference shall be given to club coaches who have pre-booked a court.
- d) No more than two courts may be in use at any one time for private lessons by club coaches and schedules must be agreed with the head coach.
- e) A booked court which has not been occupied by 15 minutes past the hour shall be deemed not booked. No-shows will be monitored.
- f) Please cancel your court booking, if you are unable to make use of it, so that it is made available for other members.
- g) Proper tennis attire shall be worn on court. Acceptable attire shall include shorts, T-shirts, tennis skirts, tracksuits, non-marking tennis shoes.
- Good manners, etiquette, and respect should be practiced at all times. Racket or ball abuse is not allowed.
- Swearing and abusive language or bad behaviour are expressly forbidden.
- Consideration for other members and visitors is to be shown both on and off the court.
- You should not enter a court when a game is in progress if it is likely to cause interference or distraction. Only do so when play has temporarily stopped. During league matches, members are allowed to play on courts when a league match has finished.
- During play, if a ball of yours strays onto or behind another court, do not attempt to retrieve the ball if there is a game in progress on that court. Wait until the point on the adjoining court is finished before you retrieve the ball.
- While a game is in progress, please do not make excessive noise while in the vicinity of that court out of respect to the players.
- While a game is in progress please do not walk behind the court – wait until play has temporarily stopped.
- There shall be no smoking on court.
- No food including chewing gum shall be consumed on court areas.
- Bicycles shall not be allowed on court.
- No persons other than the players and, where necessary, an umpire shall be allowed on court while games are in progress.
- Each member using the courts will take care not to cause any damage to the court surface, the nets or perimeter fencing by misusing them.
- Entrance gates to courts shall be closed while courts are in use and closed when the courts are vacated.
- Any Club member may bring a guest to play tennis on the Club courts subject to the following conditions:
- a) Each member is allowed to bring the same guest to the club on a maximum of three occasions in any one year.
- b) Each member and their guest shall be required to sign in as a GUEST and pay the appropriate Guest Fee on arrival at the PSLC. The Guest Fees shall be as determined by the Executive Committee from time to time and displayed on the Notice Board.
- c) Each guest shall be required to comply with the Rules of the Club while on the Club premises. It shall be the responsibility of the host member to ensure that their guest is fully aware of and complies with these Rules.
- Courts may be booked and reserved by the Committee for particular events such as league matches, tournaments, coaching sessions, club nights, ladies’ mornings etc. In general, courts are not available on Club nights or Ladies’ Mornings or other events unless with the prior approval of the Executive Committee.
- Members are required to take all due care when using the grounds at the Club. Weather warning alerts, which are posted on the tennis club website from time to time, must be heeded by all members. Litter should be put in the bins provided.
- Cars should be parked in the PSLC carpark in the marked spaces and in such a manner as to avoid causing any nuisance or obstruction to other users of the carpark.
- Bicycles should use the PSLC Bicycle rack. There shall be no cycling on the footpaths or grassed area.
- Members are required to take all reasonable care when using the Tennis Room, avoiding damage to same. Members are required to obey any notices which may be posted from time to time in and around the Courts and Tennis room governing the use of same. Please leave the Tennis room clean and tidy after use.
- All members are obliged to carry out any reasonable request made of them by the PSLC Caretaker or any Senior member of the club acting in a supervisory capacity at the Tennis Club premises.
- No Club property may be taken from the premises without the permission of the Executive Committee.
- All members should take extra care when using the tennis ball machine and use of it implies acceptance of the tennis club disclaimer which is available to read at time of booking.
- Any question not provided for by these Rules shall be decided by the Executive Committee whose decision shall be final and binding unless otherwise decided by a General Meeting of the Club.
- The Executive Committee are empowered to make and alter any Rules for the regulation of the use of the Club premises and facilities. These may be temporary and for a specific duration; for example, the Covid-19 situation.
PSLC Tennis Club – Court Booking Rules
All players are requested and expected to adhere to these Booking Rules out of respect and fairness for all Tennis Club Members, new and established.
As a member you are entitled to play as much tennis as you like subject of course to court availability. There is no charge for using the courts with the exception of the floodlights. This is payable at the PSLC reception.
To avail of the courts, you must book the court via your Club Manager 365 account.

A court may be booked for the allocated time by the booking system.
All players’ names should be listed on the court booking.
Arrive at the courts in good time and follow the protocols that are in place at the courts.
Vacate the court after the allocated time. If there is another court free it may be possible to book that court but only when you have left your current court.
Please cancel court bookings if it will not be used so that the court may be made available to other members.
